Enugu, 14th February 2024 – In a significant development, Biafra is gearing up for a legal showdown with the Federal Republic of Nigeria at the Appeal Court in Enugu. According to information obtained by BVI Channel 1, the legal action, initiated by the Elders of the Indigenous People of Biafra, is slated to commence imminently.

In a letter dated 13th February 2024, addressed to the Deputy Chief Registrar of the Court of Appeal, Enugu Division, the Customary Government of Biafra, represented by Mekadolf Chambers, formally notified the court of its preparedness to proceed with the appeal against the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Attorney General of the Federation, including Gowon and others who are respondents in the case. The appeal centers around unresolved issues between Biafra and Nigeria.

This legal battle traces its roots back to 2020 when the Federal High Court in Enugu dismissed the suit numbered FHC/EN/CS/103/2019. Subsequently, The Customary Government of Biafra, through Mekadolf Chambers, appealed this decision in Appeal no CA/E/96/2020.

The forthcoming legal battle is anticipated to be a landmark case, with the Customary Government of Biafra seeking redress for the unresolved issues that have long persisted between the secessionist group and the Nigerian government.

The decision to move forward with the appeal underscores the determination of the Biafra De Facto Customary Government to pursue justice through legal means. As the legal proceedings kick off, all eyes will be on the Appeal Court in Enugu, where this pivotal case is set to unfold in the coming weeks. The Biafra-Nigeria legal battle of the year has just begun, promising a closely watched and consequential legal battle.
